2012 EMERGING CINEMATOGRAPHER AWARDS ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Download the 2012 entry application form here.

Our event gives aspiring cinematographers a chance to exhibit their work and get crucial exposure in a high profile venue.  This event familiarizes the Motion Picture Industry with our members and gives them the chance to see the rising talent at Local 600.

The short films submitted will be reviewed by a panel of distinguished Directors of Photography, Camera Operators and Assistants from across the country.  The panel will select, as finalists, the films that reflect excellence in their craft.

The following requirements must be met in order to enter a film for consideration:

  • Entrant must be an active member in good standing with Local 600 and fully complete the Call for Entry Application.
  • Entrant must not be classified as a Director of Photography with Local 600.
  • Entrant must have served as the Director of Photography on the majority of the short film being submitted.
  • Image creation for the short film can be originated in any format.
  • Films must be a stand-alone piece and not part of a larger project.
  • Films submitted must be no longer than 30 minutes in length.
  • Entrant must include ten (10) working DVD copies of his/her submission for the judging panel process. DVDs that don't work will result in disqualification (DVDs will not be returned to entrants).
  • All DVDs must be properly labeled with the Director of Photography's full name, and title of the film.
  • DVDs must be enclosed in flat paper sleeves only. No hard or plastic cases.

Submissions & applications must be postdated by Thursday, February 2, 2012, at 5:30 PM (PST). Failure to meet these guidelines will result in disqualification.

After the awards screening at the Directors Guild Theater in Hollywood all winning films will continue to be shown at various theaters throughout the country. Past exhibitions have been screened at Cannes Film Festival and most recently for Camerimage.

In an effort to keep the quality of our show to the highest standards of cinematography and projection, we request that all final films be finished on a 35mm projection print or minimum DigiBeta (720 x 486) quality. The recommended formats are DigiBeta, HDCam, HDCam SR, DVCPro 100, QuickTime (720 x 486 or higher), or 35mm print.
